It's Me Again
A letter to my present body- a practice in noticing
Last week’s headspace was about noticing.
Did you notice I didn’t send out our weekly Brain Waves?
I’m sorry.
Instead, I was running around a backyard, eating off a grill, getting soaked by water guns, and stomping through a splash pad. It was a much-needed break.
Now that I’m back, I’d like to share where my headspace has been.
Lately, I’ve been thinking about the practice of noticing. Bringing mindfulness off the mat and into everyday life. Noticing the finer details. Noticing when we need to slow down and rest. Noticing when we are ready to lean in, challenge ourselves, and grow.
Life has a way of offering beauty even on the hardest days. A breeze that reminds us to breathe. The warmth of the sun settling onto our skin. A hand reaching out. A familiar face. A shared laugh when we thought we had nothing left to give.
I have been reminded lately that we arnt meant to carry everything along. There is something deeply healing about community- being witnessed , supported, and gently seen by one another.
So we must notice. How the wind is no different from our breath, inviting us to soften. How the Warmth of the sun echoes the warmth we carry in our hearts. When we slow down enough to notice, we remember that we belong to something much bigger than ourselves.
This week, that practice of noticing became something else.
Connection.
Noticing our own presence through connection to self. The beauty within us is not asking to be chased - it’s asking to be noticed.
We can look to the past and learn from it. We can gaze toward the future with curiosity and awe. But the only place we truly live is here- in this breath, in this moment, in this beautiful BODY. Noticing the present moment without comparison or outward desire.
The other day, I sat down and wrote a letter to my present body.
It isn’t the first time I’ve done this, but I always find the practice deeply therapeutic. It reminds me to pause, to appreciate, and to acknowledge all that this body has carried me through. It also brings to light what I am holding onto though various emotions- anger, shame, desire. etc.
I’d like to share it with you.
Here is what came up.
Dear Body,
We’ve been together for a long time.
Long before I knew how to listen to you, I only asked for more.
